New Telco Systems Demarc Device Addresses SDN, More

By Paula Bernier June 08, 2015

Telco Systems today made available a new demarcation device that it says can help service providers as they transition to software-defined networking.

The T-Marc 3308 supports Carrier Ethernet 2.0, IP Layer 3, MPLS, and SDN. It addresses SDN, Telco Systems explains, with its capability to support OpenFlow and NETCONF.

“We are at a time of an upheaval in networking. In order to remain competitive, service providers must support current operations without so much as a hiccup while they adopt new technologies,” said Amos Sofer, T-Marc 3308 product manager. “Quad-technology T-Marc 3308 paves a smooth migration path from existing Ethernet operations to tomorrow’s intelligent networks keeping our customers at the forefront of communication services.”

This new solution, which is 1RU and takes up half a shelf, is suitable to deliver services to businesses as well as to offer services on wholesale basis. It also allows for traffic engineering so communications service providers can set up data paths based on various attributes; delivers sub-50 millisecond resiliency; enables CSPs to benefit from Carrier Ethernet multiplexing; and can support service level agreements even during traffic congestion, according to the company.

The product also allows for zero-touch provisioning, which means lower costs. It includes a variety of fiber ports. And it comes with an internal power supply and optional AC power supply.

Telco Systems is demonstrating T-Marc 3308 at the Big Telecom Event this week in Chicago.

As noted in an NFV Zone posting from earlier today, SNS Research in a new report forecasts that by 2020 the RAN segment of the NFV and SDN market will be worth more than $5 billion. And, it should be emphasized, that’s just one sliver of the NFV and SDN opportunity.
