Asia-Pacific Carrier Picks Telco Systems to Migrate to Carrier Ethernet 2.0

By David Delony May 21, 2015

Telco Systems, a provider of SDN, NFV, Carrier Ethernet and MPLS edge networking, has announced a tier-1 carrier in the Asia-Pacific region has chosen the company to migrate to Carrier Ethernet 2.0.

"We are excited by this win," Moshe Shimon, vice president of product management and marketing at Telco Systems, said. "The requirements were quite demanding, the competition stiff, and the customer put our solutions to stringent testing. We were able to demonstrate the superior performance of our T-Marc Carrier Ethernet solutions along with their ability to simplify provisioning and ongoing network management."

The unnamed carrier went with Telco’s T-Marc 340F demarcation devices. Ethernet demarcation devices connect a customer’s network to a carrier’s network. The carrier decided on the T-Marc 340F after extensive testing. The carrier is converting its network from SDH to Carrier Ethernet 2.0

The T-Marc 340F provides video, voice and data connectivity over Ethernet, MPLS/VPLS and IP networks. The company also offers a modular, graphical Service Management System to make planning and implementing networks easier.

East Asia already sees high degrees of mobile use. A network based on Carrier Ethernet is ideal for mobile backhaul as smartphone use continues to grow. Modern mobile devices use a lot of data, and networks worldwide have been scrambling to keep up with the demand. With the densely populated cities in smaller land masses, mobile data reliability is only going to be more important in the future.

The carrier will also be able to draw on the familiarity that many network engineers already have with Ethernet as it upgrades its system. Ethernet is already a well-established and open standard that will give the carrier a lot of flexibility.

Telco Systems has already been recognized by TMC’s own Internet Telephony and SDN Zone with an NFV Pioneer Award and an SDN Excellence Award, respectively.
