InterCloud Introduces NFV Orchestration Solution

By Paula Bernier May 06, 2015

InterCloud Systems Inc. this week launched an orchestration solution called NFVGrid.

Built atop Juniper Networks’ Contrail software-defined networking platform, NFVGrid allows both enterprises and service providers to expedite the implementation of new network functions by removing the requirement to address the underlying infrastructure.

The InterCloud network functions virtualization solution is offered via the network-as-a-service model. It is based on the ETSI NFV ISG framework, and APIs allow for interoperability with various cloud management systems, operational and billing support systems, SDN controllers, and virtualized network function managers.

"The biggest motivation driving service providers and cloud providers to pursue NFV is the ability to quickly deploy services for new revenue opportunities,” said Aqeel Asim, vice president of cloud services at InterCloud, which was previously known as Genesis Group. “The virtualization is a reality, and it’s going to change business models."

The NFV and SDN market is forecast to reach $11 billion by 2018, according to Infonetics Research.

As for InterCloud, in a March statement Chairman and CEO Mark Munro commented that the company’s revenue increased quarter over quarter in all four quarters in 2014.

“We continued to see growth in our cloud and managed services segment as well as the other reporting segments,” he said, adding "We remain excited about the long-term potential of InterCloud and believe that with our robust cloud portfolio of products and services, with a heavy focus around software defined networks, network function virtualization, and InterCloud's proprietary SDN/NFV Orchestration software NFVGrid, that we have positioned the company to capitalize on the immense opportunities in front of us and created the necessary foundation for ongoing financial performance. We believe our commitment towards organic growth through the hiring of additional sales personnel will provide us with a distinct opportunity to take advantage of the cloud industry's growth potential in 2015 and beyond."

In another financial note related to InterCloud, TheStreet Inc. reported yesterday that the company’s stock was down 17.81 percent to $3.37 on heavy trading, giving back some of the previous day’s gains following the launch of NFVGrid.
