Dorado Supports NFV MANO in Redcell Service Management Suite

By Paula Bernier November 24, 2014

Dorado Software now offers network functions virtualization management and orchestration in its Redcell Service Management suite.

The Redcell Service Management software consolidates IT resource management, so administrators can use one system through which to manage network elements based on various technologies and from different vendors. It allows for automated remediation, configuration, and disaster recovery; change and compliance management; configuration management; deployment; inventory and auditing of assets; monitoring; and more.

The new NFV management and orchestration capabilities, which Dorado refers to as MANO, allow Redcell to also manage NFV-defined virtual network functions and software-defined networking capabilities. That means service providers can manage both physical and virtual elements and functions with a single solution.

Integrating the management and orchestration of physical and virtual environments has been a popular discussion point in recent months as more enterprises and service providers move to embrace NFV, which gives them more network agility and allows them to benefit from the savings that running network functionality as software on industry-standard hardware enables. Managing existing physical and newer virtual network elements would kind of defeat the whole point of embracing new agile networking environments, so companies like Dorado are offering network operators with the tools to bring together the old and the new to allow for better efficiency, cost, and speed.

Other companies ringing that bell include Big Switch, Brocade, EXFO, Gigamon, VMware, and VSS Monitoring. Big Switch talked about the management of physical and virtual in announcing its Unified Physical + Virtual (P+V) Cloud Switching Fabric. Brocade and Gigamon are both working with VMware to offer end-to-end visibility across physical and virtual networks. And EXFO’s Infrastructure Performance Suite within its BrixNGN portfolio enables service providers to have visibility into network and service quality even as they embrace SDN and virtualization.
