EXFO Address Cloud, Virtualization with Xtract

By Paula Bernier August 28, 2014

Just a month after unveiling an infrastructure performance suite addressing visibility for virtualization, EXFO Inc. has unveiled another solution to help network operators manage their networks in the age of the cloud and virtualization.

Introduced today, EXFO Xtract is a monitoring platform that collects, analyzes, correlates, and reports on current, past, and potential future events in the network. That provides network operators with a clear and manageable view of their infrastructure so they can avoid outages, and otherwise control their networks to ensure the performance they desire.

The solution’s integrated fault solution does alarm filtering, deduplication, and reduction so it can be used even in very large networks. And it comes with preloaded management information bases with key performance indicators for quick set up.

EXFO says it designed Xtract in recognition that legacy monitoring solutions weren’t designed to economically address the scale and complexity that come with the virtualization and cloud-based service offerings.

In July, EXFO introduced the Infrastructure Performance Suite to its BrixNGN portfolio. The BrixNGN Infrastructure Performance Suite allows facilities-based service providers to correlate service-level key performance indicators with infrastructure metrics such as CPU, flow performance, memory and interface utilization, and port speed. The solution also supports control and provisioning of select network elements from Cisco Systems, Juniper Networks, RAD, and other suppliers.

"With the ability to address both existing and emerging technologies, BrixNGN is critical to ensuring infrastructure performance and to meeting the challenges that come with the shift to software-defined networking and network functions virtualization," Claudio Mazzuca, vice president of EXFO's Transport and Service Assurance Division, said. "BrixNGN ensures the successful delivery of services – virtual or otherwise – by providing operators with a comprehensive view of both network and service performance."
