Amdocs, Vodafone Showcase NFV at MWC

By Clayton Hamshar February 24, 2016

Customer experience specialist Amdocs is solidifying its spot at the forefront of network functions virtualization (NFV) by showcasing a multi-vendor NFV demonstration at Mobile World Congress 2016, happening this week in Barcelona, Spain. The company is partnering with telecom giant Vodafone to illustrate the power of NFV when applied to virtual Customer Premises Equipment (vCPE), with support from a range of other industry partners.

The demonstration will focus on how to enhance virtual private networks (VPNs) with software-defined networking (SDN) and NFV to vastly reduce businesses’ reliance on physical hardware. Adapting this strategy with products such as Vodafone’s VPN+, companies can easily improve network performance by minimizing infrastructure and automating much of the critical functionality. This in turn simplifies deployment and incident management while maintaining the formidable security advantages afforded by use of a VPN. Virtualization also creates the opportunity for deeper and clearer insights into network performance and health, as VPN+ boasts extensive analytics and monitoring capabilities.

Amdocs’ Network Cloud Service Orchestrator solution is the key to facilitating this transition from physical infrastructure to cloud service environments, automatically creating and managing network services based on real-time network circumstances and information from information. By dynamically designing, fulfilling and assuring network services in this manner, businesses can easily avoid vendor lock-in while improving the agility of their networks and implementing custom services that best fit their needs. The company’s Service Design and Create offering automates onboarding and service design to further enable rapid, cost-effective innovation when building next-generation networks to support virtual services.

“This demo, designed and delivered jointly with Vodafone and partners, reinforces Amdocs commitment to open, vendor-neutral NFV solutions that fuel service innovation in the hybrid physical/virtual network,” explains Ann Hatchell, Director of Marketing and Sales Operations for the Data Experience Business Unit at Amdocs.

The demonstration will take place at the Amdocs booth — Stand 3G10 in Hall 3 — and at the Vodafone booth — Stand 6B30 in Hall 6. If your business has yet to be convinced of the merits of NFV and cloud services, this showcase promises to be a clear indication of the immense range of benefits the technology offers and Amdocs’ extensive support capabilities with regards to realizing them.

“Amdocs offers a unique, holistic approach to NFV service lifecycle management by leveraging the power of orchestration and automation to maximize operational efficiencies, accelerate service innovation and agility in the hybrid network,” said Ms. Hatchell. “These are all key steps towards hybrid networks enabling the speed of innovation required in a world of digital immediacy.”
