More product rollouts and multivendor activities are what is new this week in the software-defined networking arena.

As reported by NFVZone on Wednesday, Coriant unveiled its Dynamic Optical Cloud, a metro-to-core networking solution that leverages Coriant’s 7100 and hiT 7300 packet optical networking platforms; its 8600 mobile edge router, which the company got via its merger with Tellabs earlier this year; and a suite of applications, open orchestration and controllers.

“Coriant’s Dynamic Optical Cloud solution reinforces our market leadership in end-to-end packet optical networking following the merger of Tellabs and Coriant,” said CEO Pat DiPietro. “With greater scale, deeper R&D resources and technology expertise, and an expanded portfolio of SDN-enabled products and capabilities, we are well positioned to be the preferred supplier to our customers as their network and service requirements evolve in a cloud-centric world.”

Also Wednesday, NFVZone posted a story and video about TMC’s recent ITEXPO interview with Vimal Suba, product manager at Cisco Systems, who spoke about how customers are able to become more agile and flexibility due to SDN.

This week also saw MRV Communications Inc. issue a press release talking about its activities on the network functions virtualization and software-defined networking fronts.

The packet and optical solutions provider, which has been around for 25 years, noted it is now a member of both the European Telecommunications Standards Institute's NFV Industry Specification Group and the Open Networking Foundation.

"With virtualization of the metro network providing the next step for optimum network usage and dynamic behavior, collaboration within the industry is key to delivering exactly what the market needs,” said Edna Ganon, director of technology at MRV Communications. “We look forward to working with our colleagues in the ONF and ETSI communities on bringing interoperability and standardization to the next generation of software-based networks."
