Interconnekt Applies Brocade Infrastructure to Expand Growth in the Cloud

By Frank Griffin February 24, 2014

According to a Gartner report on cloud computing, the total market is expected to grow to $210 billion in 2016 with a 17.7 percent compound annual growth rate (CAGR) from 2011 to 2016. To capitalize on this opportunity, service providers around the world are introducing new solutions for their customers in this growing field. Interconnekt, a cloud and managed services provider in Australia, is upgrading its networks with SDN-enabled infrastructure from Brocade to meet the demand of its pay-as-you-grow services.

Interconnekt is upgrading its infrastructure along with its two sister companies ConnektNet and ConnektCloud. The new Brocade VDX 6740 switches and Brocade NetIron CER 2000 routers will give interconnect a 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) network foundation. With this system in place, the company will be able to scale services as the demand continues to increase from small-to-medium enterprise (SME) and mid-market customers.

The range of managed as-a-service solutions the three companies provide includes hosted server, desktop, backup and disaster recovery/business continuity, archive, storage, email, voice and Web services, along with managed security and Microsoft 365 applications. Additionally, they offer MPLS-based managed WAN connectivity across multiple access technologies, at speeds of up to 10 Gbps.

"We needed a lot more headroom for expansion, and this translated into greater reliability, scalability and flexibility. While continuing to ride the growth curve, we also wanted to equip ourselves for the future with much more intelligent, automated network capabilities," said Jacob Kino, managing director of Interconnekt.

Brocade VDX 6740, 6740T, and 6740T-1G Switches offer:

  • High performance and low latency with 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) access ports and 40 GbE uplinks, as well as ultra-low latency through wire-speed ports and automated hardware-based Inter-Switch Link (ISL) trunking
  • Flexible bandiwdth options to deploy 1000BASE-T and upgrade to 10GBASE-T for higher bandwidth
  • Simplified architecture enables cloud computing with Brocade VCS Fabric technology
  • Easy configuration lets organizations manage an entire VCS fabric as a single switch with Brocade VCS Logical Chassis
  • Maximizes network utilization with efficient, load-balanced multipathing at Layers 1, 2, and 3, including multiple Layer 3 gateways

The new software defined networking (SDN) roadmap Brocade provides will give Interconnekt future capabilities that will allow it to meet growing demand without virtually any limitations. This includes customers that require real-time financial trading as well as e-commerce.

"The solutions deployed by Interconnekt to stay ahead of the demand curve are deceptively simple – which is really a hallmark of Brocade – yet provide all the capabilities it needs to scale its business, while reducing operational cost right now. And, with SDN support built into the hardware, Interconnekt will be able to leverage emerging protocols such as VXLAN/NVGR to further increase network automation and flexibility." said Greig Guy, Country Manager Australia and New Zealand, Brocade.
