InterCloud Now Offers Virtual Network Function Validation

Fresh off announcing a batch of new contracts totaling $1.3 million, InterCloud Systems has launched new industry-leading, vendor-independent, multi-vendor virtual network function (VNF) validation services. With this third-party VNF validation, service providers can now know in advance that VNFs are working together in a specific, dynamic environment.

This should prove to be a useful resource as VNF requires validation each time any new release of underlying software layers is implemented. With InterCloud’s VNF validation service, VNF vendors have an efficient methodology to ensure vertical integration is consistent, avoiding performance degradation of any other functions in the VNF.

“A well-defined interoperability testing strategy for network virtualization is a critical next step for telecommunication equipment vendors gearing up towards virtualization and cloud,” said Mark Munro, InterCloud chairman of the board and chief executive officer. “With many network functions now in virtualized form, interoperability will be critical both horizontally among the virtualized network functions working in the chain, and vertically as well, thus ensuring that the system as a whole is working efficiently. Our goal is to become the global leader in multi-vendor, third party NFV validation services and build a brand of excellence.”

As each VNF validation is unique, InterCloud has created three levels of validation services, made available through annual contracts. This way, regardless of how intricate the network, InterCloud can still offer the right level of service. Validation levels include: Silver, Gold and Platinum validation.

Silver validation is the first tier of qualification and it indicates that an NFV successfully operates in the cloud/SDN environment. This includes the basic NFV functionality running on a fully virtualized SDN-enabled cloud platform.

Gold validation includes everything in the Silver tier and adds guaranteed performance testing of scalability, both up and down, to address demand volatility typical for cloud service providers (CSPs). Gold validation is also done in compliance with OPNFV testing requirements.

Finally, Platinum validation includes everything in the Gold and Silver validation levels. It also guarantees that the NFV will still function, even when software and hardware is updated or changed.
