Mitel's Mavenir Mobile Division Receives Another NFV Accolade

By Dominick Sorrentino June 09, 2015

Business communications provider Mitel’s trophy room was given some extra sparkle today with the announcement that Mavenir Mobile Division received the ‘NFV Innovation of the Year’ award at the Network Virtualization and SDN World event in London.

Mitel has made headlines in recent months with various honorary recognitions, including its recent landing in Gartner’s ‘Magic Quadrant’ for the second time in one year. In addition, today’s reception marks the third time the company’s Mavenir Mobile virtualized solutions have earned a Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) award in twelve months.

Mitel and Mavenir merged in March of this year—with the former acquiring the latter’s outstanding shares—in an effort to drive innovation in the unified communications (UC) and mobile Internet protocol (IP) UC market, which they have done so far by offering clients deployments of voice over Wi-Fi (VoWi-Fi) and voice over LTE (VoLTE).

The company currently works with over 130 service providers, including 15 of the top 20 mobile carriers. And with big sea changes at hand, the merger couldn’t have come at a more advantageous time.

"Service Providers are looking to NFV to not just virtualize, but revolutionize. The move to all-IP LTE and IMS networks based upon NFV/SDN architectures is definitely bringing revolutionary change to mobile networks and services,” said Pardeep Kohli, President of Mitel's Mavenir Mobile Division.

"We have consistently seen significant cost and time-to-market advantages for service providers with advancements such as NFV which enables fast, efficient rollout of network services and enhancements, with minimal disruption and easy scalability,” he added. “Our customers are no longer tied to proprietary hardware solutions from large traditional vendors."

As virtualization moves full steam ahead, and with yet another NFV innovation award to its name, Mitel has secured a front seat on what appears to be an unstoppable train. And who knows? If things keep going the way they have been for Mitel, the company might just start steering the locomotive.
