VMware Technology Alliance Gets New Ally with CENX

By Steve Anderson June 03, 2015

The market for network functions virtualization (NFV) tools has been on an upward bent for quite some time now, and companies are eager to get new entries into a market that wants to take more of its various network node functions into cloud-based environments. VMware has proven a major force on that front, and built the Technology Alliance Partner (TAP) program to help drive inroads into the market. Now, it's announced a new addition to the TAP program in the form of CENX.

CENX is regarded as a worldwide leader when it comes to service orchestration for not only virtualized networks, but also for software-defined networks. Thus its addition into the TAP program makes sense, given its own clear focus on virtualization and cloud computing solutions. The fullest range of the TAP program, meanwhile, is geared toward providing a complete range of products for companies to take advantage of depending on said companies' current circumstances.

VMware's senior director of global technology partnering, Howard Hall, described how VMware offered up a complete online market known as the VMware Solution Exchange, which in turn could present a wide variety of solutions for users. This includes offering more information on the new connection with CENX. A look at the Solution Exchange noted several different possible solutions afoot, with five complete marketplace systems in operation ranging from virtual appliances to cloud management to technology partners and end-user computing. There was even one marketplace strictly devoted to the vCloud Air system.

Hall wasn't the only one discussing the impact of CENX's new affiliation; CENX's own senior vice president of product management, Andrew McDonald, offered up some commentary as well, saying “Service providers are eager to deploy Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) and are looking for solutions to overcome the operational challenges this new paradigm brings. Joining the VMware TAP program allows CENX to collaborate with industry leaders to deliver proven lifecycle service orchestration for NFV.”

There was no denying that VMware already had a pretty extensive lineup of technology partners to its credit, but adding CENX to the roster only improves the lineup and provides advantages to both sides. Not only can VMware offer more services to its current line of customers and thus secure its position as a go-to source for technological solutions, but CENX can get access to that VMware pool of customers and make its own case stronger in the process. The two firms working together can thus augment each others' customer base and perception in the market, both of which are valuable developments.

Even the customer base should win with this one; access to all that new technology should be valuable for consumer firms as well. This isn't likely to be the end of VMware's program expansion, and the end result should prove to be welcome for all concerned.
