NFV & SDN Zone Week in Review: OneAccess, Ericsson, OpenDaylight

By Joe Rizzo February 07, 2015

Two of the largest emerging regions in the world are China and India. Both countries have been building out their LTE networks, which in turn has led to a lot of development in these areas. Many companies have begun to take an interest and are beginning to make these regions a prime concern. One such company is Ericsson. It is with this in mind that Ericsson is looking at a three year restructuring project.

SYMKLOUD is a unique converged platform concept, designed from the ground up for cloud/IT and NFV/SDN cable and carrier cloud infrastructure deployments. Recently, Kontron announced its intentions to ease the transition to NFV/SDN for mobile, cable and cloud service providers, along with their ISV partners. This will be accomplished through its SYMKLOUD MS2910 Converged Infrastructure Platform and SYMLAB PaaS Evaluation Environment.

According to Radisys, its new FlowEngine TDE-1000 is the industry’s highest performing traffic distribution engine. It has been designed to accelerate service delivery, while at the same time provide maximum flexibility and efficiency for communications and content providers deploying SDN/NFV. The goal of the intelligent load balancer is to resolve the issues of give and take by identifying and routing different types of traffic quickly to virtualized network functions.

OneAccess is a global provider of service enabling network access solutions. Earlier this week the company unveiled its service migration strategy which will give service providers the ability to practically and efficiently implement the delivery of virtualized services without affecting its existing IT environment. New virtualized network functions can be activated and chained to current legacy services.

The OpenDaylight Project is a collaborative open source project whose goal is to accelerate adoption of software-defined networking and create a solid foundation for Network Functions Virtualization. It is a community led project, which is supported by the industry. OpenDaylight is going to be offering 14 internships, which is double what was available last year, for those who want to get some actual hands-on development experience from some of the leading networking specialists.
