JDSU Puts NFV, SDN to the Test

By Paula Bernier December 03, 2014

JDSU is addressing the move to virtualized computing environments with the introduction of a new solution called TrueSpeed VNF. The TrueSpeed VNF software can be deployed anywhere in the network to help service providers resolve customer complaints related to network performance.

“Virtualized and software-defined networks are transforming the communications industry as new building blocks that help keep pace with technology change, unpredictable data traffic, cloud, web 2.0 and more − it’s vital that test be virtualized, too,” said Sue Spradley, a senior vice president and general manager at JDSU, which late next year will be split into two publicly traded companies, one focused on optical components and the other on network and service enablement.

TrueSpeed VNF is interoperable with JDSU’s T-BERD/MTS handheld network test instruments and allows users to do tests for RFC 6349 compliance. And it enables customer care technicians to evaluate the customer experience without dedicated test equipment or a truck roll.

Ensuring network operators have visibility into new software-centric networks has become a popular theme in recent months.

Last month, startup Arkin Net came out of stealth mode to disclose it is working on a multivendor SDN operations platform that offers 360-degree visibility across virtual and physical layers. CohesiveFT last month, meanwhile, introduced VNS3:ms, a management system that presents addresses, routes, rules, and other management information about virtual network elements through a single pane of glass.

And late this summer, EXFO and Gigamon each had news related network software-centric network visibility. EXFO in July introduced the Infrastructure Performance Suite to its BrixNGN portfolio and in August unveiled the EXFO Xtract monitoring platform, both of which it said address the move to NFV and SDN. And Gigamon in August announced a partnership with VMware through which the companies will provide a holistic view of the data center.
