After three successful years, Standup for the Cure, alongside its
national sponsor, Ambry
Genetics, and presenting sponsor, Riviera
Paddlesurf, announces Standup for the Cure Miami to benefit the
Miami/Ft. Lauderdale Affiliate of Susan G. Komen. The team, led by
founder Judie Vivian and Event Director Dan Van Dyck, will be hosting
the event at the Miami Yacht Club on November 8, 2014 as the second in a
series of nationwide events aimed at expanding Standup for the Cure's
mission to raise money and awareness for early breast cancer detection,
research, treatment and education.
"Standup for the Cure's focus is to introduce non-paddlers to the
healthy lifestyle of standup paddling, while building a supportive
community bound by the desire to rid the world of breast cancer," stated
Event Director Dan Van Dyck.
The Standup for the Cure Event features instruction from top
international paddleboard experts, including World Champion Zane
Schweitzer, as well as melanoma and breast cancer screening, live music,
and a health and fitness expo. Attendees will also enjoy a great
festival with catered lunch by Ruth's Chris Steak House and Happy Hour.
Ambry Genetics, Standup for the Cure's national sponsor, is committed to
providing high quality diagnostics and research to help those with
inherited disorders, like hereditary cancer. Ambry Genetics proudly
supports many community organizations and leads the visionary family of
partners for this event, which includes Riviera Paddlesurf (Presenting
Sponsor), Maui Jim (Gold Sponsor), Ruth's Chris Steak House and Zonal
Clothing. More Info: http://www.standup-for-the-cure.org/.
"We were thrilled with the success of Standup for the Cure that has
raised more than $300,000 for our organization and are honored to have
the event continue," said Lisa Wolter, Executive Director of the Orange
County Affiliate of Susan G. Komen. "Mammograms are vital for
identifying breast cancer at an early stage, so this event really is a
lifesaver. We are excited to share Standup for the Cure's mission with
the rest of the country."
The Miami/Ft. Lauderdale Affiliate of Susan G. Komen is dedicated to
combating breast cancer at every front. Seventy-five percent of the
Affiliate's net income goes toward funding grants to local hospitals and
community organizations that provide breast health education and breast
cancer screening and treatment programs for medically underserved women
in Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties. The remaining twenty-five
percent supports the national Komen Grants Program, which funds
groundbreaking breast cancer research, meritorious awards and
educational and scientific programs around the world.
"The Komen Miami/Ft. Lauderdale Affiliate is excited and honored that
Standup for the Cure has chosen our community to host their first 'East
Coast' event!" said Cathy McCarthy, Executive Director of the Miami/Ft.
Lauderdale Affiliate of Susan G. Komen. "This event is the perfect fit
for our South Florida lifestyle. Paddleboarding is one of the most
popular sports here and by offering free onsite mammograms and
screenings, Standup for a Cure will play an important part in helping us
keep our promise to end breast cancer forever."
