Crown Uniform & Linen Service is showing support of Plaistow Public
Library in Plaistow, NH, by donating apparel items for the children's
The Plaistow Public Library is working to be more than just a place to
borrow books. With programs and resources ranging from games and
activities to resources for doing homework, this library serves as a
community support system for knowledge and education.
This summer, the library is participating in the National Summer Reading
Program. The program encourages children of all ages to read during the
summer for pleasure and is a proven way of helping students build and
retain their literacy skills. This year's theme is "Fizz, Boom, Read!"
which encompasses science, math, technology and engineering activities.
Jenn Dawley, head of youth services, knows that firing the imaginations
of young people is achieved through a variety of enrichment programs and
activities that make learning fun. By incorporating a "hands on" quality
to the theme, she is helping children develop an aptitude for some of
the most important subjects in our education system.
Crown has the pleasure of partnering with this innovative program by
donating lab coats for the children and library staff to wear while
learning abot science related topics. Dressing the part adds an
interactive element to the learning process, engaging the children on a
physical, as well as mental, level.
The library is also helping children to develop a sense of social
responsibility with a day of bread baking. The Learn, Bake, Share
program was developed by King Arthur Flour of Vermont as a way to
educate families about the science of baking bread and the importance of
giving back to the community. Crown has donated aprons for the library
staff and the King Arthur Flour representative as a small way to show
support for this event.
Following the program, presented by King Arthur Flour, participating
families will take a bread baking kit (donated by King Arthur Flour)
home with them. Each kit contains materials to make 2 loaves of bread at
home. One loaf is for the family to keep and the other loaf will be
returned to the library to be donated to the local food pantry.
Jenn Dawley says, "It's a wonderful opportunity to gather as a
community, learn something new, and then to give back to our community."
