Priority Health hosted a grand opening event with community leader L.
Brooks Patterson and Mayor Brenda Lawrence to commemorate its new office
in Oakland County on Thursday. The event also featured Dr. Lynda Wood,
superintendent for Southfield Public Schools, who accepted a $10,000
"Priority Health entered the southeast Michigan market nearly 10 years
ago and we have grown considerably in that time," said Michael P. Freed,
president and CEO for Priority Health. "With our new office, we are
renewing our commitment to serve Southeast Michigan while ensuring our
neighbors have access to excellent and affordable health care."
Priority Health moved its former Farmington Hills offices and its 120
employees into The American Center in Southfield. The office move is
part of Priority Health's growth plan, investing $2 million in Oakland
County and adding 30 to 50 jobs to the region in the next two years. In
addition to offices for employees, The American Center also houses a
Priority Health information center where members and the general public
can interact face-to-face with insurance experts.
To celebrate its new home in Southfield, Priority Health made a $10,000
donation to the SouthfieldPublic Schools to support its health and
wellness programs. According to the Centers for Disease Control, only 17
percent of high school students meet the physical activity
recommendations but physical activity may positively influence academic
performance. This donation will help fund programs and equipment
necessary to expand such programs.
"We are truly grateful for Priority Health's support of Southfield
Public Schools. Their generous donation will help promote activities
that encourage healthy habits and lifestyles for our students," said Dr.
Lynda Wood, superintendent, Southfield Public Schools.
"Priority Health is committed to improving the health and lives of its
members and this donation will support a similar mission in the
Southfield Public Schools," said Freed.
The new office space and school district donation is just a portion of
Priority Health's investment in the area. The health plan continues to
expand its health plan options, programs and provider network statewide
to best meet member and consumer needs.
