MAXIMUS (NYSE: MMS), a leading provider of government services
worldwide, announced today that its wholly owned subsidiary, Health
Management Limited, will operate the new Health and Work Service (HWS)
program on behalf of the United Kingdom's Department for Work and
Pensions (DWP). The 63-month contract will begin on August 1, 2014 and
will run through October 31, 2019.
The goal of the HWS program is to help employees manage their medical
conditions more effectively by providing timely access to clinical
services for non-emergency care and get them on a path to return to
work. Under the program, Health Management clinicians will offer medical
assessments and return-to-work plans for employees who have been absent
from work for four consecutive weeks due to illness. Clinicians will
conduct consultations to identify the factors preventing an employee
from returning to work and then recommend a return-to-work plan.
The service will launch on a phased basis beginning with the North of
England, Midlands and Wales by late 2014, then nationally by May 2015.
While these services are available to all employees, given the
qualifying length of absence, most referrals will likely come from
general practitioners, as well as employers who do not have existing
occupational health programs.
