CroMex: 32% of Businesses Experienced Some Form of Cyber-attack in Last 12 Months
(24/7 Press Releases Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) NEW YORK, NY, July 23, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Back in May, eBay customers were urged to change their passwords due to a massive security breach which left around 145 million customers worldwide vulnerable to identity theft and attacks on their bank accounts. The event brought the safety of online shopping to the media's attention and caused many businesses to question whether they are actively doing enough to protect not only their own interests but their customers' interests too. New York based sales and marketing firm CroMex have reviewed the risks businesses are currently facing online and how businesses can take steps to protect their online assets.
A recent study revealed that 32% of companies have experienced a cyber-attack in the last 12 months, whilst 49% of companies admit to being unsure if their security has already been compromised due to a lack of resources available to them for detecting cyber-attacks. This result isn't exactly surprising, with digital technology improving all the time, and website building platforms and tools becoming more readily available and easier to use almost anyone now has the means to start their own online business. Although this may be great for young entrepreneurs, it also means many businesses are established without adequate knowledge or technologies to prevent cyber-attacks and many businesses now face concerns that they are currently not in a position to protect themselves from security hits.
Despite the worrying results of the study, buying online is still incredibly popular among consumers. The convenience of shopping anywhere at any time remains a massive draw and a great opportunity for those in more remote areas to gain access to a wider range of products or services.
However the process of taking payments online can be a tempting opportunity for cyber hackers. Many businesses have cited that unhappy ex-employees are high on the list of possible perpetrators of security breaches. With this in mind CroMex are urging businesses to consider the importance of constantly updating systems to reduce the chances of an online attack. If a system appears to be working, many businesses may be guilty of failing to make updating it a priority, however keeping systems in check can make a major difference to a business's security and deter hackers.
CroMex also believe small businesses can benefit hugely by creating a balance between online and offline sales. With an increasing number of consumers' turning back to offline shopping due to recent events, businesses have a fantastic opportunity to increase their offline sales. Selling offline provides businesses with the chance to create and build lasting customer relationships, and ensure their services are tailored to fully suit individual needs. Meeting with potential customers in person also allows for companies to access information that many customers may feel uneasy sharing online. This information will ultimately make the sales experience more enjoyable for the customer whilst help the business gain a better understanding of their target market.
