Life Sciences Foundation Appoints Carl Feldbaum as New Board Chair
(GlobeNewswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) SAN FRANCISCO, July 2, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Life Sciences Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to biotech history, has appointed Carl Feldbaum as the new interim board chair. Feldbaum replaces G. Steven Burrill. The LSF board accepted Burrill's resignation today, and expressed their gratitude for his years of leadership to the organization.
Carl Feldbaum has served as a director of the Life Sciences Foundation since 2011. Feldbaum also serves on the boards of BIO Ventures for Global Health, Actelion Pharmaceuticals Ltd., and Exelixis. Previously, he served as founding president of the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) from 1993 until his retirement in 2005.
"Carl has been an invaluable leader and contributor to LSF's board and is a trusted counselor to the Foundation staff," says Heather Erickson, President and CEO of the Life Sciences Foundation.
Five years ago, G. Steven Burrill was part of a small group of biotech leaders who came together to discuss the importance of capturing the great stories and lessons of the biotech pioneers for future generations. From this meeting, the Life Sciences Foundation was formed in 2010.
According to Erickson, "Steve's history in the biotech industry reaches back over 40 years. He's witnessed and been involved in the formation and growth of biotech's earliest companies. The Life Sciences Foundation has greatly benefited from his perspective and passion for the biotech industry." The Life Sciences Foundation educates and inspires curious minds with the history and continuing significance of biotechnology. The foundation is collecting, preserving and sharing firsthand information about the people, organizations and discoveries that define biotechnology and continue to shape the world in which we live.
