(Saudi Gazette, The Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) From Tokyo's Miraishonen, this is a chat app that does not require an Internet connection, similar in many ways to FireChat. Mobile phone users exchange messages with other users within a range of 10 meters via Bluetooth. The service began last week and initially the relaying function has been implemented only for Android devices, with iOS soon to follow. By using Bluetooth to exchange chat messages communication is possible even when the Internet is not available. The long distance relaying network, which works without mobile base stations, will be enhanced as the number of the users increases. The app is part of a new trend in peer to peer communications and mesh networks that are beyond the control and monitoring of central authorities. FireChat is already proving to be extremely popular in Iraqi cities where the high density of users enables people to exchange messages with each other outside the purview of Iraqi telecoms.
