Virtual Charter Academy (MVCA), a tuition-free online public charter
school for students in Michigan, will honor its graduates during a 2014
ceremony taking place this Saturday, June 14th at 7:30 p.m.
at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park. More than 50 students will
walk across the stage to receive their diplomas and make history as
MVCA's largest graduating class.
The ceremony will kick off with remarks from Stephen Smith,
Valedictorian of the graduating class. An accomplished musician, Stephen
will perform a piece on the piano that he composed. An avid writer,
Stephen has written extensively for the K12 student newspaper, The
Experience, and has also reported as a freelance sports writr.
Stephen also enjoys politics and fostered this interest during his
senior year at MVCA through a legislative internship with State
Representative Tom Leonard. Through dual enrollment at a nearby college,
Stephen earned multiple credits toward his higher education and plans to
attend Bob Jones University in the fall, majoring in music education.
"We're so proud of each of our graduates and all they have
accomplished," said Jean Broadwater, Head of School at Michigan Virtual
Charter Academy. "MVCA is more than just a top-notch school; we're a
community. Our dedicated teachers work to motivate students academically
while building up their character and commitment to excellence in all
that they do. Celebrating the goals and achievements of this talented
group is a true joy for the parents and faculty who actively
participated in shaping our MVCA program."
The ceremony's keynote speaker is Damon Arnold, PhD, the director of the
Lakers Academic Program at Grand Valley State University. An advocate of
life-long learning, Arnold is also an author, consultant and
motivational speaker. His speech will focus on overcoming adversity and
preparing for the future.
MVCA, an online public charter school authorized by Grand Valley State
University, is open to students statewide in grades K-12. To help raise
awareness of the program, MVCA hosts a variety of free events in
communities across the state, as well as online information sessions. At
upcoming events, families are welcome to speak with school
representatives about how students are succeeding at MVCA.
Families can find more information on upcoming events and how to enroll
