National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), southern Taiwan, set up a
Dutch-based trading house called the Dutch Design Post (DDP) at 321
Artist Village, Tainan, recently to facilitate designers from the
Netherlands to do business with Taiwan sectors together.
NCKU Executive Vice President Dr. Huey-Jen Jenny Su on behalf of NCKU
President Hwung-Hweng Hwung attended the opening ceremony on May 3rd.
She said, "We're happy to have Professor Bart van Bueren with us,
cooperating with Tainan City Government and the Netherlands to bring
together the resources and talents."
The DDP is initiated by the Culture and Creativity Incubation and R&D
Center (CCIRDC) from the College of Planning and Design at NCKU and
Professor Bart van Bueren from the Netherlands.
Hans Fortuin, the Representative and Director of the Netherlands Trade &
Investment Office (NTIO) Taiwan also attended the cermony and mentioned
that the DDP could be referred to the history of Tainan when there was a
Dutch trading post 352 years ago.
Now Tainan welcomes especially Dutch designers, to do business together,
according to Fortuin, and the idea for inviting Dutch designers over is
beneficial for both sides.
Director of the DDP Bart van Bueren who is currently a visiting
professor in the Department of Architecture at NCKU said, "The DDP
brings up collaboration between the Netherlands and Taiwan in the fields
"We're aiming to get senior and junior designers to come here in Taiwan
to share knowledge with totally different cultures and that's where
interesting things happen when you meet each other," added van Bueren.
More than 10 designers are scheduled to come to visit Taiwan this year
and they will showcase their work in the DDP, meeting up with Taiwanese
designers during their stay, according to van Bueren.
He also said, as born traders, Dutch people actively seek international
markets for their design. This is about selling their products, using
the high quality manufacture techniques which are renowned in Taiwan and
setting up collaborations with local parties.
The DDP invites Dutch designers to come and engage with Taiwanese
designers and students to exchange knowledge, van Bueren said.
