KR gets excellent rating for corporate governance [DNA : Daily News & Analysis (India)]
(DNA : Daily News & Analysis (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) CBD-Belapur: The Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) has rated Konkan Railway (KR) 'excellent', for following best corporate practices, which had been laid down by the DPE for the year 2012-13. There are around 40 parameters under which the DPE judges the corporate governance of any public sector unit in the country. The DPE works under the ministry of heavy industries and public enterprises.
Konkan Railways, which is known for its efficient management practices, was appreciated by the World Bank in the past. It has got another feather in its cap by getting rated 'excellent' for its best corporate governance. The rating is for the year 2012-13 and is based on degree of compliance to guidelines issued by DPE on corporate governance.
Vaishali Patange, chief PRO of KR said, "The rating shows that the administration part of KR is following best practices." He added that the achievement highlights the transparency level the organisation maintains.
Patange said that in the financial year 2013-14, KR saw augmentation in various passenger amenities on the route as well as in earnings.
For the first time, since the start of its operations, KR has earned a record Rs400 crore alone from freight traffic in 2013-14, which is an increment of 17.5% over the previous year.
Konkan Railway also introduced five new trains on the route, and took steps to improve passenger amenities.
The new trains were Dadar-Tirunelveli Weekly Express, LTT-Kochuveli biweekly Express, Madgaon-Mangalore Central Intercity Express, Bhatkal-Mangalore DMU service and Madgaon-Karwar DEMU service. Nizamuddin-Madgaon Goa Sampark Kranti Express was extended up to Chandigarh and frequency of Chandigarh-Kochuveli Kerala Sampark Kranti Express increased from weekly to biweekly.
