Businesses must be sensitive to consumers MTN Boss [Ghana News Agency]
(Ghana News Agency Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Accra, April 11, GNA- Mr Serame Taukobong, Chief Executive Officer of MTN, Ghana has called on corporate organisations to be sensitive to consumer power in demanding for quality services.
He also charged businesses to embrace the new social media platforms to promote their brands or risk losing out in the current trendy business environment.
Mr Taukobong made the statement at the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG) lecture An Evening with the CEO, in Accra.
The programme, which is the second in a series, was on the topic: Consumer Power and the Digital Age, attracted captains of industry as well as marketing professionals.
Mr Taukobong noted that consumer power provides the foundation and outlet for brand disloyalty, especially if the consumer is not treated well.
He said the fact that a product is a big brand does not mean it could not be criticised by the consumer.
Mr Taukobong said the digital world is rapidly evolving and as such corporate organisations must also learn to adapt to the changing environment.
He said due to the increase in the social media platforms consumers are now inundated with myriad of products to choose from.
He said some newspapers and radio stations are closing down as a result of low advertising revenue due to increase in social media.
Mr Taukobong also noted that the availability of the internet have made it easy for people to order products right from their homes unlike the old times where people have to be around to shop.
He said the internet and social media enable consumers to share their views globally at the speed of thought.
Mr Taukobong said MTN as corporate organisation believes that digitisation is the greatest equaliser for the nation.
He said the company has a strong digital presence which is monitored, pro-active and engages the consumer to find out his concerns.
Mr Kojo Martey, Vice President of the CIMG, said the body would use the lecture to come out with more programmes for the benefit of the Ghanaian consumer.
He expressed the hope that people would use the digital and social media platforms to ensure the positive development of the country.
