Maha medical CET on May 8, to have negative marking [DNA : Daily News & Analysis (India)]

(DNA : Daily News & Analysis (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) A negative marking pattern may be introduced from this year for the Common Entrance Test (CET) conducted in the state for health science degree courses (MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS, Physiotherapy, BSc-Nursing, etc).

Over 1.75 lakh students are expected to take this test on May 8.

The directorate of medical education and research (DMER) has decided to follow the pattern and syllabus of the National Entrance cum Eligibility Test-undergrad (NEET-UG) in this regard.

The registration forms for the exam will be available online, and the notification regarding this is expected by month-end. DMER is planning to hire an outsourcing agency for the online job.

"We sent a proposal in this regard to the medical education and research ministry early this month. The ministry's nod (official) is yet to come," said a highly-placed DMER official.

The official said every question would carry four marks; in case of a wrong answer, one mark would be deducted.

On the feasibility of online forms in rural area, he said: "In 2013, all the candidates who appeared for NEET-UG applied online. Students apply from their homes or depend on cyber cafés. Internet penetration has gone up considerably in the last two years." DMER used to organise the medical CET till 2012; it was replaced by NEET-UG last year under 'one India one test' vision of the ministry of human resources and development. This was discontinued following a Supreme Court ruling.
