Hackers target SP website, demand early admissions [DNA : Sunday]

(DNA : Sunday Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Pune: It seems that the Sir Parshurambhau College worries have no end as its official website was hacked on Friday, though it was only limited to defacement. The hackers left their signature reading on the site: "::(H@cked bY Friend of (Mr.#Sir)::Agle Saal admission jaldi start karna nahi to bacche log waat laga denge# Sir College me swachta nahi hai #Sir, Nothing is secure, Security sudhar lo admin." Prima facie it looks that someone, who is disgruntled, must have done the website defacement.

Website hacking or the defacement has altogether different connotations as the college was recently engrossed in several controversies like backdoor admissions row of standard XI, cancellation of index number of college by Pune division of Maharashtra State Board of Secondary & Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) after college did not act over the marksheet forgery by a Std XI student.

"On Saturday, we came to know from our Information Technology department that the website of the college has been hacked and immediately we called a meeting of our IT experts and alerted the cyber cell of the Pune police," said principal Padmaja Ghorpade.

She said now the defacement has been removed by the experts. However, since it is a serious matter, the cyber crime cell will investigate the case.

College authorities said it seems that the hacking must have been done by some student as the hacker has emphasised on admissions, security issues and cleanliness.

Sagar Rahurkar, a digital evidence analyst, said it is a simple website defacement case and some disgruntled element could have done it.

Police inspector SM Babar of the cyber cell of Pune police said they have been alerted by the college authorities. "We will investigate the case by analysing from which Internet Protocol (IP) the website was hacked," he said.
