President and CEO of telenor group calls on president Mamnoon Hussain - Press Note issued by Press Information Department
(Pakistan Official News Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Following is the text of press note issued by Press Information Department (PID) Quote A delegation of Telenor Group led by President and CEO of the Group, Jon Fredrik today called on President Mamnoon Hussain at the Aiwan-e-Sadr on Friday.
The delegation included Mr. Tore Johnsen, Senior Vice President of the Telenor Group Asian region, Mr. Haakon Bruaset Kjol, Senior Vice President Corporate affairs Asian region, Mr. Lars Christian Luel, CEO Telenor Pakistan, and Mr. Aslam Hayat Chief Corporate Affairs.
Mr. Jon Fredrik briefed the President about his group and its operations in Pakistan. He informed the President that Telenor is the one of the world’s major mobile operators with more than 160 million subscriptions. The Group that provides services in 12 countries and additionally in 17 countries through ownership in VimpelCom Ltd, crossed the active subscriber base of 30 million thus retaining its position of second largest mobile operator in Pakistan.
The President appreciated the role of Telenor group in the telecommunication sector of the country and invited it to participate in the upcoming Spectrum auction for Next Generation Mobile Services in Pakistan.
While commending Telenor Group for its contribution towards national security through the deployment of Biometric Verification System for the issuance of SIMs in Pakistan, the President urged the Telenor Group to encourage local manufacturing through its global partners.
Assuring of Government’s continued support, the President expressed the hope that the Telenor would expand its operations in the country so as to utilize the existing potential of the country in telecom sector for the mutual benefit of all.
Mr. Jon Fredrik thanked the President for the meeting and reiterated his company’s commitment towards facilitating the people with telecommunication solutions for transforming their lives and empowering societies to grow and progress.
