Teva to sell generic Viagra in US from 2017 [Jerusalem Post (Israel)]
(Jerusalem Post (Israel) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Teva Pharmaceuticals USA announced Wednesday it will sell generic Viagra in the United States starting in 2017, as hard bargaining produced a patent-litigation settlement with Pfizer, the company that produces the original drug.
The terms of the agreement were confidential, but according to Teva, it could begin marketing the drug earlier than the December 11, 2017 target "under certain circumstances." Entering the US market for erectile-dysfunction drugs would be a coup for Israel-based Teva. In 2013, Viagra had annual sales estimated at $1.2 billion.
In 2012, Teva failed to launch generic Viagra in the US after the US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia ruled it was infringing on Pfizer's patent, delaying its plans to enter the market until 2019.The FDA had already granted tentative approval for Teva's generic version of Viagra in 25-, 50-, and 100- mg. tablets.
In June, Teva announced it would launch its generic version of Viagra in much of Europe, as patents expired in the UK, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Ireland, Holland, Austrioa, Denmark and Belgium.(c) Copyright Jerusalem Post. All rights reserved.
