Violin Flash Memory Array Helps NCCD Improve Children's Lives; National Council on Crime and Delinquency Benefits from Enhanced Oracle Performance
(M2 PressWIRE Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) London, UK - - Violin Memory (NYSE: VMEM), a leader in persistent memory-based storage solutions, announced its Flash Memory Array was used by the National Council on Crime and Delinquency (NCCD) to provide valuable information to client human service agencies to improve their practices. In order to analyse and report data more quickly, NCCD turned to Violin Memory to build an Oracle RAC solution optimised for performance and cost savings.
NCCD uses research and analytics to improve outcomes for people in juvenile, adult justice, child welfare, and other human service systems.
Highly-focused current and customised interactive reports are some of the most essential tools provided by NCCD to its clients, yet the reporting cycle had become unwieldy, with cycle times of more than 20 hours to produce key reports. NCCD originally considered expanding its existing storage with more spinning disk, but decided to look at an all-flash array. To improve performance, NCCD chose the latest release of Oracle RAC to build and tune its application for flash, leveraging the latest version of Oracle ASM, but needed storage to support the Oracle RAC configuration.
To better analyse the data for NCCD's reporting the organisation chose a Violin 6000 Series Flash Memory Array to improve the performance of the Oracle database. NCCD worked closely with Violin to build, configure and tune the environment for maximum performance and throughput. The result was a solution that produced the reports in about three hours, an 85 percent improvement in report turnaround times, and a reduction of three to two Oracle RAC nodes.
"We can now offer all of our clients improved response for the reports we run," said Joel Ehrlich, director of Information Systems at NCCD. "Violin Memory storage accelerated our reporting, which allows us to get more work from our data and deeper insights into potential social outcomes." "NCCD has shown how technology can help address social problems and Violin is proud to advance important work in this field by accelerating database performance," said Narayan Venkat, VP of product management at Violin Memory.
