The HomePlug® Alliance (www.homeplug.org),
the worldwide industry group for powerline communications networking,
completed the first of three events in China as part of a Connected Home
Summit Roadshow. The first event was held in Beijing on Monday, November
11th and the Roadshow delegation will now travel to Shanghai
for a November 13th event and then Shenzhen for a November 15th
event. HomePlug technology enables a home's electrical wires to
distribute broadband Internet, HD video, digital music and smart energy
The Connected Home Summit in Beijing attracted a full audience of 200
guests and included a variety of keynotes covering HomePlug technologies
as well as traction and growth potential in China. The following
sessions were held:
A HomePlug AV interoperability demonstration featured products using
four different silicon vendors' chipsets, noting that this level of
interoperability is a strong indicator of the technology's maturity and
drives toward a cost effective ecosystem. Additionally, the alliance
hosted a multi silicon vendor demonstration of nVoy hybrid networking
technology (based on the IEEE 1905.1). The nVoy demo consisted of hybrid
(HomePlug & Wi-Fi) products from Broadcom, MStar and Qualcomm Atheros
interoperating and validating 1905.1 features. As a special note, CATR
participated on the China Panel and announced that they have been
selected as the test lab for nVoy Certifications in China.
Hisense also hosted an eye-catching demo which included a 58"
retail-available TV set with HomePlug AV technology embedded inside the
TV itself - no adapters or Wi-Fi security key needed to connect this TV
to online services. A new Hisense Air Conditioning Unit was showcased
with HomePlug AV technology embedded inside to enable simple control and
automation use cases.
Guests found the event offered a wealth of information regarding
HomePlug home networking technologies and potential in the China market
and worldwide. "We are pleased with the success of our Connected Home
Summit in Beijing and look forward to continuing our momentum at our
next scheduled Summits in Shanghai and Shenzhen," said Rob Ranck,
HomePlug Alliance President. "We would like to thank our guests and
speakers for bringing lively and insightful discussions to our Summits."
