Sustainable Energy to Supply Energy Storage Inverters for US Military Scalable Micro-Grid Demonstration
(ENP Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ENP Newswire - 04 July 2013 Release date- 03072013 - CALGARY, ALBERTA - Sustainable Energy Technologies (TSX VENTURE: STG), a manufacturer of intelligent power electronics for decentralized generation and storage systems is pleased to report that a New York based contractor has selected the Company's Bidirex energy storage inverter for a US Army contract to demonstrate a new Intelligent Scalable Micro-Grid solution.
First deliveries are planned for this month. The identity of the contractor is not disclosed due to confidentiality obligations and for competitive reasons.
'A micro-grid is an autonomous power supply system that delivers firm, grid quality power to isolated or critical loads from local generation sources,' said Brent Harris, CTO of Sustainable Energy. 'AC coupled' micro-grids are gaining ground quickly as the next generation off-grid system due to their flexible, modular design, with the military taking a leading role in deployment and demonstration.' 'Our patented Bidirex energy storage inverter enables the highly flexible 'AC coupled' design with the power industry's highest round trip conversion efficiencies. Its unique open control easily accommodates emerging low voltage battery technologies and greatly facilitates system design.' 'Customer up-take to date indicates that a significant portion of North American market for distributed energy storage in the next few years will come for remote industrial (telecommunications, oil and gas, mining) and military applications.' 'Inverter-controlled, battery centric micro-grids, using alternative energy sources, are often able to deliver more resilient power at a lower cost than diesel generators that have been traditionally used in these applications,' Harris added.
About Sustainable Energy Sustainable Energy (www.SustainableEnergy.com) designs and manufactures advanced power electronics for distributed smart grid and micro-grid applications. Advanced power electronics are a critical interface between all distributed generation and storage systems devices, ensuring the delivery of high quality alternating current (AC) to the power grid as well as providing utility control over the interconnection and power quality.
Sustainable Energy's bi-directional low voltage energy storage inverter directly connects low voltage batteries to the grid with the power industry's highest round trip (battery charging and discharging) efficiencies. The inverter meets tough utility smart grid standards such as Germany's VDE 4105 which is becoming a global standard and enables full utility control over the battery dispatch and power quality functions.
The inverter's software configurable platform has been designed from the ground up to be easily integrated into power management systems, with the industry's only open industry standard communications software to support a highly cost competitive OEM strategy and allowing rapid development of OEM partner product solutions.
Sustainable Energy's platform is based on patented breakthroughs in power inverter design that enable its platform to convert high current/low voltage DC into high quality AC with conversion efficiencies that are materially higher than anything in the market with an inherently lower cost structure.
