Free hunter ed classes scheduled for Feb. 23
Feb 08, 2013 (Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Free hunter education classes will be offered in both Itawamba and Pontotoc Counties on Feb. 23. The course includes 10 hours of instruction, including live shooting. To earn certification, students must be at least 10 years old and must pass a written exam and complete a firing exercise.
The Itawamba County class will be held in Peppertown at the Woodmen of the World building, located at the intersection of Highway 78 and 178. The Pontotoc County class will be held in Pontotoc at the Utility Service Center, at 140 W. Reynolds St. Both classes will run from 8 a.m. until 6:30 p.m.
To register for either or any upcoming class, call the MDWFP regional office at 840-5172.
Everyone born after Jan. 1, 1972 is required to complete a hunter education course before purchasing a Mississippi hunting license. Also, anyone between 12 and 16 years old must have a hunter education certificate before hunting alone in Mississippi.
An alternative to taking the standard hunter education class is the official Mississippi Hunter Education Internet Course. The internet course allows the student to do all but the last three hours of the work online. The last three hours of the online hunter education course are regularly available at MDWFP regional offices.
