Glendale neighborhood locked down after home invasion robbery
Jan 02, 2013 (Glendale News-Press - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Two men were arrested Wednesday morning after they allegedly forced themselves inside a Glendale home, beat one resident and robbed the other residents at gunpoint, officials said.
A major section of Concord Street and Patterson Avenue was closed off as K-9 units and the Special Weapons and Tactics team went door-to-door to search for a third man who fled on foot after the car they were all riding in crashed during a brief police pursuit by responding officers.
Officials were unable to find the man and called off the search after the nearly seven-hour lockdown of affected homes and businesses.
"I just think it's terrible," said Elsa English, who lives near where the robbery occurred in the 700 block of Patterson Avenue.
The two men who were arrested after crashing their vehicle at Concord Street and Wilson Avenue were treated for minor injuries at a local hospital. Police did not release their identities Wednesday.
Police officials would not comment on the investigation Wednesday, but did say they believe the house was targeted and not a random act of violence.
Police received the call about 5:15 a.m. from a resident saying he was hiding because three men with guns were inside the home and trying to rob the residence, Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz said. One of the residents suffered a laceration on his head after being beaten. There were three men and one woman staying in the home at the time, police said.
When officers arrived, they saw the three men leaving the neighborhood and attempted to stop them, police said. But they continued driving and eventually crashed.
Police also recovered a gun at the crash scene.
The third man was described as being black, 6 feet tall and wearing a white shirt with dark pants.
