*** Mississippi Inventors Develop Patent for Insulated Gun Protection Article ALEXANDRIA, Va., Dec. 18 -- Toby Boggan, Coldwater, Miss., and Brian Throneberry, Hernando, Miss., have developed a patent (8,327,572) for an "insulated gun protection article." The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: "A tight, insulating enclosure for a rifle or shotgun is provided. Such an enclosure envelops the wooden stock and other wooden portions of a suitable firearm, at least, to protect the wooden surfaces thereof during storage, transportation, and utilization. The enclosure itself contains rubberized foam components to impart insulation around the wooden portions as protection against hard and/or extended surfaces that may bump, scratch, dent, or otherwise disfigure the wooden portions of a rifle or shotgun. Furthermore, the enclosure is of a single construction with suitable cut-out portions for movable parts, such as a trigger, a clip, a scope, and the like and is secured around the target firearm in a tight-fitting fashion in order to protect the noted surfaces, as well as provide shock absorption during firing. In such a manner, the enclosure permits access at all times to the necessary movable components while ensuring a snug fit around the delicate portions of the rifle or shotgun." The patent application was filed on June 25, 2009 (12/491,977). The full-text of the patent can be found at

*** AVG Netherlands Assigned Patent ALEXANDRIA, Va., Dec. 18 -- AVG Netherlands, The Netherlands, has been assigned a patent (8,332,946) developed by Darren R. Boisjolie, Valparaiso, Fla., David Kent Haadsma, Tupelo, Miss., and Gandhi Balasubramaniam, Shalimar, Fla., for a "method and system for protecting endpoints." The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: "A malware-protection method and a malware-protection system for protecting a computer from malware infection by preventing infected files from executing on the computer before they can do harm. The malware-protection method employs a number of techniques and relies on multiple layers of protection to identify trusted files, prevent execution of untrustworthy files, accurately detect corrupted files, analyze questionable files, and quarantine files. The malware-protection system includes a client-based verification, detection, blocking, and quarantine application that interacts and coordinates protection methods with application-verification servers, scan servers, definition-update servers, and policy servers to deliver intelligent malware protection as a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) service. All users of the malware-protection system benefit from the detection of malicious files by any other user. The first time a malicious file is detected by any part of the malware-protection system, all the components of the malware-protection system are immediately protected against the malicious file." The patent application was filed on Sept. 15, 2010 (12/883,162). The full-text of the patent can be found at
