MEDIA STATEMENT: American Specialty Health and the Connecticut Chiropractic Association

HARTFORD, Conn., Nov 16, 2012 (GlobeNewswire via COMTEX) -- American Specialty Health, Inc. (ASH) and the Connecticut Chiropractic Association (CCA) began a relationship in November 2011 to enhance communications and opportunities between the Connecticut chiropractic community and ASH. The two organizations continue to meet to discuss issues of mutual interest, including: -- addressing the Connecticut Attorney General's opinion regarding expansion of covered Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes; -- expansion of educational sessions for ASH-contracted practitioners who are CCA members; and -- educating public policy decision-makers of the importance of the inclusion of services provided by chiropractors in health benefit plans, and other health delivery systems borne from the Affordable Care Act.

The initial meeting of the organizations occurred in December 2011, and the most recent meeting occurred on November 8, 2012. Both organizations have agreed that these meetings and other communication strategies have been beneficial in improving opportunities for chiropractic practitioners to participate in ASH administrative programs on behalf of Connecticut-based health plans.

ASH Chairman and Chief Executive Officer George DeVries stated: "Continued communication between the CCA and ASH has been effective in understanding input from practitioners. We appreciate the professionalism of the association leadership and their positive, solution-oriented ideas. We feel that both organizations have greatly benefitted from these meetings." Kristin Kasabucki, Chief Executive Officer of the Connecticut Chiropractic Association, agreed, and stated: "These meetings have been very beneficial for Connecticut-based chiropractic practitioners, and we appreciate the transparent and rapid response by ASH to our concerns." Virtualization has taken the IT world by storm but to date the comms market has been mostly unaffected – relying instead on proprietary appliances for numerous functions. A recent industry push to establish network standards virtualization will potentially shake-up the telecommunications market even more than the move to IP communications. As network hardware begins to be released as software, carriers are expected to save money and benefit greatly from new levels of flexibility related to hosting their network in private and virtual private clouds.
