A.G. Schneiderman Urges NYS Consumers to File Claims in $1.1 Billion Electronics Price Fixing Settlement
(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) NEW YORK, Nov. 13 -- New York Attorney General issued the following news release: Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman today urged New York State consumers and businesses who purchased liquid crystal display (LCD) flat panel screens used in televisions, computer monitors and laptop computers to file claims for cash refunds from a $1.1 billion dollar settlement fund. The fund was established with money from ten major technology corporations charged with illegally conspiring to boost prices for the screens. Customers who bought an LCD flat panel screen between January 1, 1999, and December 31, 2006, may be entitled to money back under the settlement. December 6 is the deadline for filing claims.
"This price-fixing scheme caused consumers and businesses to pay artificially high prices and victims may be eligible for significant refunds," Attorney General Schneiderman said. "As a result of this billion dollar settlement, consumers and businesses can recoup the amounts they were overcharged. I encourage consumers and businesses to file claims online before the December 6th deadline in order to get their money back." Eligible consumers could collect $25, $100, $200 or more depending upon the number of televisions, monitors and laptop computers purchased. Customers with large purchases could recoup thousands of dollars. The claims process is simple. It consists of a few questions about the number of LCD flat screen TVs, monitors and laptops that were purchased from 1999 to 2006.
Consumers and businesses are eligible for payments if they were residents of New York or one of the other 23 settling states or the District of Columbia at the time of purchase. The 23 other states included in the settlement are Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida, Hawaii, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Tennessee, Vermont, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
The deadline to file claims is December 6, 2012.
The easiest way to file a claim is to use the online claim form at www.LCDclass.com The settling defendants that manufactured the flat panels for use in LCD flat screen TVs, monitors and laptops are AU Optronics Corporation, Hitachi Ltd., Sharp Corporation, Toshiba Corporation, Samsung Electronics Corporation, Epson Imaging Devices Corporation, LG Electronics, Chunghwa Picture Tubes, HannStar Display Corporation and Chi Mei Optoelectronics. Panels manufactured by these defendants were incorporated into LCD products sold under many other brand names. Even if an LCD product does not bear the brand of one of the settling defendants it may be covered by the settlement.
