Pelican Valley Health Center has new executive director
Nov 09, 2012 (Fergus Falls Daily Journal - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Though Barbara Garrity's first day on the job at Pelican Valley Health Center was last week, she is no stranger to the Pelican Rapids area. She has been a summer visitor to the area for over 20 years.
Garrity worked in long-term care as a high school student, and returned to the field in 2010. In between she had a career in TV journalism as a news reporter with WDAY, and as morning show producer-anchor with KVLY.
Garrity has five years' experience in direct patient care, including working as a CNA. She will immediately be facing some challenges in her new position.
The Pelican Valley Hospital District -- the board that governs the non-profit health center -- has downsized and revised its upcoming renovation and expansion plan. Two of the townships within the district -- Dunn and Scambler -- are requesting to detach from the district. A hearing on the detachment will take place on November 17. Garrity has been briefed, but it should be an interesting first few weeks on the job.
Technology may be used to stop PR run on bad checks Setting up a webcam at the register of the municipal liquor store in Pelican Rapids was one solution posed to stop a run of bad checks.
While most pay by debit or credit cards, the store still takes in about 20 to 30 checks a month. One suspect reportedly has written nearly $4,000 in bad checks in the region since August.
The webcam would be set up at the register and take a photo of each customer. The camera would integrate with the existing cash register system. The Pelican City Council requested the liquor store manage obtain price quotes on the webcam device.
