Aug 03, 2012 (The Anniston Star - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 -- $199.99 with two-year contract Samsung is hoping to shake-up the smartphone market with the latest version of its flagship handset series. The Galaxy S3 shines with a gorgeous 4.8-inch screen and next-generation wireless capability.
The appearance mirrors the same slick and thin design of previous Android phones such as the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx. It's an absolute dream to hold this device in your hands.
The phone runs on the Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) operating system. All of Google's many programs and services are available and work extremely well.
One can't discuss a smartphone without talking about the camera. The Galaxy S3 boasts an 8-mega pixel camera with flash on the rear side. The one on the front is only 1.9, but has the ability to record HD video. This is perfect for video chat apps such as Skype.
It's important to note that 4G LTE service is not yet available in Anniston. However, the phone offers backwards compatibility with Edge and 3G networks. Verizon is constantly adding cities to support next-generation wireless, and I would expect to see Anniston on that list in the near future.
Samsung's Galaxy S3 is a wonderful phone that is sure to please most Android fans. However, it's important to note that the next iPhone will likely launch in the next three months.
I would personally recommend waiting until Apple reveals their phone before making a decision. Three months is worth waiting before making such a big decision as signing a two-year contract.
Those that choose to go with the Galaxy S3 will still have an amazing phone that will serve them well over the next few years. It's the current king of the Android market.
