May 16, 2012 (Congressional Documents and Publications/ContentWorks via COMTEX) -- Congressman Robert Hurt today released the following statement after being recognized with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce "Spirit of Enterprise" award at the Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce Annual Awards Dinner. This award was given by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and on Monday, Congressman Hurt was recognized by the local Danville Pittsylvania Chamber of Commerce for his commitment to supporting 5th District small businesses and pro-growth, pro-job creating policies throughout his tenure as a U.S. Congressman: "Our small businesses and family farms are the engine that keeps our rural economy in the 5th District going and it is my belief that the federal government should advance policies that will make it easier for them to succeed, not harder. I am honored to have received this recognition from the Danville Pittsylvania Chamber and I look forward to continuing to work on behalf of the 5th District to advance common-sense, bipartisan measures that will reduce the size and scope of the federal government, reduce our debt and deficit, and foster an environment where it is our small businesses and family farms that are hiring and expanding and not the over-sized federal government." Snapshot of Robert Hurt's Pro-Growth Voting Record: * H.R. 2: Repealing the President's job-crushing, debt-loading health care law which created economic burdens on our small businesses, families, and individuals in the 5th District.
* H.R. 4: The Small Business Paperwork Mandate Elimination Act of 2011 - repealing the 1099 Provision in the President's health care law - help foster an economic environment of certainty that will give businesses in the 5th District, and throughout the nation, the confidence necessary to innovate, hire, and expand.
* H.R. 1230/H.R. 1938: Restarting American Offshore Leasing Now Act/North American Made Energy Security Act to restore domestic energy production and enhance American energy security while reducing the pain at the gas pumps for citizens across Central and Southside Virignia and creating much needed jobs by advancing the Keystone Pipeline.
