Amazon in sales boost [South Wales Evening Post (Wales)]

(South Wales Evening Post (Wales) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) INTERNET retail giant Amazon has seen sales increase in the first quarter thanks to the success of its trademark Kindle e-reader.

Amazon runs a major fulfilment centre employing around 1,000 staff at Jersey Marine.

The company's first quarter sales were up 34 per cent to Pounds 8.1 billion.

Jeff Bezos, founder and chief executive officer of Amazon.com, said: "I'm excited to announce that we now have more than 130,000 new, in-copyright books that are exclusive to the Kindle Store -- you won't find them anywhere else.

"They include many of our top bestsellers -- in fact, 16 of our top 100 bestselling titles are exclusive to our store." (c) 2012 ProQuest Information and Learning Company; All Rights Reserved.

Virtualization has taken the IT world by storm but to date the comms market has been mostly unaffected – relying instead on proprietary appliances for numerous functions. A recent industry push to establish network standards virtualization will potentially shake-up the telecommunications market even more than the move to IP communications. As network hardware begins to be released as software, carriers are expected to save money and benefit greatly from new levels of flexibility related to hosting their network in private and virtual private clouds.
