Broadcast International: New CodecSys Media Server Facilitates Multi-Protocol, Multi-Device Streaming for 'TV Anywhere' Solution

Apr 17, 2012 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- Broadcast International announced the debut of its software-based CodecSys Media Server that streams media content from one unified source to multiple clients and devices for a "TV Anywhere" solution.

According to a release, the server, being demonstrated for the first time at NAB, was developed to extend and enhance a broadcaster's content delivery options, opening new Over the Top Television (OTT) opportunities to the myriad new video-capable devices, including PCs, cell phones, tablets, set top boxes and smart TVs.

Broadcast International is also highlighting its CodecSys Encoder/Transcoder and the latest version of its Managed Media Services for digital signage networks.

In addition to being shown in Broadcast International's Booth SU 8523, CodecSys powered solutions will be demonstrated in Fujitsu's Booth SU 5305, and IBM's Booth N 5223.

CodecSys Media Server provides multiplexing and streaming of live and on-demand HD-quality video content over the Internet using adaptive bitrate streaming. Picture quality is adjusted to bandwidth availability in real-time to ensure fluid service delivery and images that are always of the highest quality relative to the available bandwidth.

CodecSys Encoder/Transcoder is a patented multi-codec software framework that operates on standard IT hardware to encode and transcode live cloud video streams and assets.

Managed Media Services (MMS) enables a turnkey solution comprised of all the tools necessary to meet marketing and merchandising objectives through digital signage, digital posters, tablets and music with messaging. Broadcast International's Managed Media Service incorporates a new and anonymous facial detection tool and analytics that allows marketing and corporate communication campaigns to be customized, targeted and delivered.

Virtualization has taken the IT world by storm but to date the comms market has been mostly unaffected – relying instead on proprietary appliances for numerous functions. A recent industry push to establish network standards virtualization will potentially shake-up the telecommunications market even more than the move to IP communications. As network hardware begins to be released as software, carriers are expected to save money and benefit greatly from new levels of flexibility related to hosting their network in private and virtual private clouds.
