Robberies, standoff result in man's arrest

Apr 13, 2012 (The Kansas City Star - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A Kansas City man has been charged with the Wednesday night robbery of a woman, which led to a lengthy standoff with police.

Jose D. Drew, 21, also was charged by Jackson County prosecutors with committing another robbery over the weekend outside a south Kansas City hotel.

In Wednesday night's robbery, a 22-year-old woman walking home from a bus stop just before 9 p.m. was robbed at gunpoint in the 5100 block of Walnut Street. A witness saw the suspect get into a car and provided a license plate number to police.

The car was registered to an address in the 5700 block of Jackson Avenue. Officers found the car parked there. Several people came out of the house and surrendered to police, but officers thought someone was still inside and surrounded the house. After several hours, police entered the residence early Thursday and found Drew in the attic. They found several weapons and a purse that matched the description of the robbery victim's purse, according to court documents.

Drew also was charged with holding up a man on Saturday outside the hotel in the 11100 block of Colorado Avenue. The man's gold wedding ring and cell phone were taken.

Jackson County court records show that Drew was on probation for robbery and had been released from custody in February after serving a 120-day shock incarceration.

Virtualization has taken the IT world by storm but to date the comms market has been mostly unaffected – relying instead on proprietary appliances for numerous functions. A recent industry push to establish network standards virtualization will potentially shake-up the telecommunications market even more than the move to IP communications. As network hardware begins to be released as software, carriers are expected to save money and benefit greatly from new levels of flexibility related to hosting their network in private and virtual private clouds.
