Verizon enters cloud reseller agreement with CornerStone

Apr 06, 2012 (M2 EQUITYBITES via COMTEX) -- CornerStone Telephone Company, a provider of advanced communications services, is now working with Verizon Global Wholesale to provide cloud-computing services to its business customers, communications group Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) (Nasdaq:VZ) announced on Thursday.

Under the agreement CornerStone will resell an enterprise-class cloud service from Terremark, Verizon's IT services subsidiary.

The service, to be sold under CornerStone's SkySphere brand, will help its customers efficiently and securely manage on-demand computing resources to meet dynamic business requirements while paying only for the resources consumed.

More specifically, CornerStone will resell Terremark's Enterprise Cloud, a Web-based service that provides a self-managed dedicated pool of computing resources. The service is currently supported by data centres in North America, Latin America and Europe. The new cloud service joins CornerStone's broad portfolio of reliable business communications solutions, including telephony, Internet, Web hosting, data centre services and cloud-based applications, such as hosted desktop, e-mail encryption, e-commerce and customer relationship management.

Virtualization has taken the IT world by storm but to date the comms market has been mostly unaffected – relying instead on proprietary appliances for numerous functions. A recent industry push to establish network standards virtualization will potentially shake-up the telecommunications market even more than the move to IP communications. As network hardware begins to be released as software, carriers are expected to save money and benefit greatly from new levels of flexibility related to hosting their network in private and virtual private clouds.
