BRIEF: Mesa shooting victim remains hospitalized

Apr 02, 2012 (East Valley Tribune - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- An Apache Junction man shot in the head in the parking lot of a Home Depot remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Police say that Lawrence Ornelas, 49, was shot about 5 p.m. on Thursday while sitting inside his truck outside the Home Depot at 1545 S. Crismon Road near the U.S. 60.

On Friday, police identified the suspect as Ivan Ernesto Eskivel, 22, and arrested him on suspicion of two counts of aggravated assault and one count of misconduct involving weapons, according to police. He was booked into a Maricopa County jail.

Witnesses told police that Eskivel confronted Ornelas and that the pair got into a fight before Eskivel pulled a gun and shot him.

Eskivel was arrested about 20 minutes after the shooting when a police officer noticed a vehicle that matched the description of the suspect's vehicle traveling eastbound on Loop 202 at Hawes Road. After Eskivel exited the highway at Williams Field Road, he ran a red light and caused a minor crash with another vehicle moments before he was taken into custody without further incident, police said.

Police are continuing to investigate the motive for the shooting and how the possible relationship between Ornelas and Eskivel.

Virtualization has taken the IT world by storm but to date the comms market has been mostly unaffected – relying instead on proprietary appliances for numerous functions. A recent industry push to establish network standards virtualization will potentially shake-up the telecommunications market even more than the move to IP communications. As network hardware begins to be released as software, carriers are expected to save money and benefit greatly from new levels of flexibility related to hosting their network in private and virtual private clouds.
