Tantalus’ Societal Contribution and Rapid Growth Recognized by Deloitte Honors

Company receives Green 15 award; ranked on Fast 50 and Fast 500 Lists Raleigh, NC and Vancouver, BC October 19, 2011 Tantalus, a leading provider of Smart Grid communications, today announced it has won the prestigious Deloitte Technology Green 15TM Award and been featured in the Deloitte Technology Fast 50TM and Fast 500 TM lists. The Green 15 Award was created in 2007 to showcase the 15 Canadian companies leading the way with breakthroughs in the field of green technology.

Deloitte ranked Tantalus 20th among the Deloitte Technology Fast 50, a ranking of the 50 fastest growing technology companies in Canada, and 97th on the Technology Fast 500, a ranking of the fastest growing technology companies across North America. Rankings for both awards are based on the percentage of fiscal year revenue growth during the period from 2006-2010, in which time Tantalus’ revenue grew 1,069 percent.

For more than a decade, the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 program has tracked the growth of Canadian-grown global leaders. Now Canada’s pre-eminent technology award program, the Deloitte Technology Fast 50, highlights Canadian leaders from the broader Deloitte North American Technology Fast 500 initiative.

Tantalus has experienced rapid growth in the past few years, setting a blistering pace of new customer wins and steadily expanding its product offerings. At a high rate of development that has continued into 2011, Tantalus has increased its customer portfolio and broadened its reach into several new territories across North America including the Northeast, the Rockies and Texas.

Additionally, Tantalus recently announced a strategic partnership with metering information giant Itron that will expand Tantalus’ reach into all territories of North and Central America. Itron will sell TUNet® to municipal and cooperative utilities as a complete smart grid communications solution for AMI, demand response, and distribution automation applications. The strategic partnership brings a solution to utilities that have already installed or are in the process of deploying Itron ERTs, allowing them to take advantage of those investments as a part of a long-term smart grid strategy without stranding their investments.

“We are honored that Deloitte recognized our substantial growth,” said Eric Murray, Tantalus CEO. “These accolades are a testament to the foresight of our innovative customers – utility companies committed to providing premium service to their users by managing resources and costs effectively while also being on the forefront of technology utilization. The success that they have had with the Tantalus communications network has propelled this level of growth.” “The Deloitte Technology Green 15 Award recognizes those Canadian companies that offer solutions to global environmental challenges by creating intellectual property and technology that reduce society’s environmental impact,” said Richard Lee, National Leader, Technology, Media & Telecommunications Industry Group, Deloitte.

Virtualization has taken the IT world by storm but to date the comms market has been mostly unaffected – relying instead on proprietary appliances for numerous functions. A recent industry push to establish network standards virtualization will potentially shake-up the telecommunications market even more than the move to IP communications. As network hardware begins to be released as software, carriers are expected to save money and benefit greatly from new levels of flexibility related to hosting their network in private and virtual private clouds.
