Petersburg-based BandyWorks LLC wins resilience award [Richmond Times-Dispatch, Va.]
(Richmond Times-Dispatch (VA) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Sept. 02--Technology firm BandyWorks LLC was among five companies honored last night in Charlottesville for hanging tough during difficult economic times.
The companies received the Tayloe Murphy Resilience Award handed out by the University of Virginia's Darden School of Business.
The award goes to five companies that have shown economic growth, job creation and community support during the past five years. The businesses need to be located in economically challenged areas that have high unemployment, high poverty and low self-employment.
The companies receive a full scholarship to a course at Darden's Executive Education Program. The cost of the course ranges from $8,000 to $12,000.
Petersburg-based BandyWorks, which was founded in 2005, develops software applications for businesses, associations, governments and the military.
BandyWorks has about 25 employees, and its main office is on Market Street in Petersburg. The company has a second office in Bangalore, India.
More than 100 companies applied for the Resilience Award.
Twelve finalists attended a dinner at the university last night. Among the finalists was Richmond-based Evergreen Enterprises.
The other four winners were Morgan Lumber Co. Inc., of Red Oak; ParknPool Corp. of Lexington; Marstel-Day of Fredericksburg; and Solid Stone Fabrics Inc. of Martinsville.
