Telco Systems Lands Gold Award at Info Security Products Guide Awards

By Steve Anderson May 05, 2016

Great news recently landed for Telco Systems, a company already well-known for its offerings in the software-defined networking (SDN) and network functions virtualization (NFV) fields. The company recently took home a gold award for its NFV CyberGuard solution, in the Best Security Products and Solutions for Telecommunications category at the Info Security Products Guide's Global Excellence Awards.

The award was given thanks to Telco Systems' ability to protect these comparatively new operations. With NFV CyberGuard, users get a better level of protection against threats leveled at SDN and NFV operations. It's regarded as the first such solution on the market, and offers a slate of networking probes, as well as network functions virtualization infrastructure (NFVI) agents and a complete big data analytics engine.

Since the NFV CyberGuard system can be used as a virtualized network function (VNF), it can effectively provide insight on the whole network. That improves the chances of threats being spotted from the outset and responded to effectively.

Telco Systems' CEO, Ariel Efrati, commented “Telcos are excited about SDN and NFV and the ability of these technologies to improve network versatility, reduce operational costs and create new business opportunities. At the same time, the fact that SDN and NFV networks are software-based and designed to be controlled remotely create many inherent, IT-like security vulnerabilities, including exposure to hacking, malware and other cyberattacks. We are proud to receive this award and see it as confirmation of our strategy to help service providers securely fulfill the promises of SDN and NFV.”

With use of SDN and NFV on the rise, it's a safe bet that there would be more cybercriminals making attempts on it as a means to gain access to data-rich systems. This was largely the case with the Internet of Things and with cloud-based systems, so it's not a surprise to see that coming around here. Not much was made out of securing SDN and NFV operations—which itself was something of a surprise—but with NFV CyberGuard, Telco Systems may have just seized first-mover advantage. That's going to give it some real cachet in the market, if it can take advantage of it and push its product line to companies looking to get in on SDN and NFV but not immediately aware of the security threats posed.

NFV CyberGuard's win at the Global Excellence Award underscores not only Telco Systems' foresight in offering such protections, but also the need to have more of these protections in place. The market will likely be a lot thicker with competitors soon, but for now, Telco Systems has earned its advantage and should be following up as hard as it can.
