Saisei Granular Flow Solution Available at the HP SDN App Store

By Paula Bernier December 04, 2014

Saisei’s FlowCommand network performance enforcement software is now available through the HP SDN App Store.

There are a lot of traditional solutions sold via the HP SDN App Store, including offerings from DNS and load balancing companies, says Jeff Paine, vice president of marketing at Saisei, adding that the additional of FlowCommand “adds a little uniqueness to what’s happening in the HP ecosystem.”

FlowCommand is unique, he explains, in that it provides network administrators with a granular view of flows traversing HP network elements and functions.

Controllers, which typically connect two switch ports, are generally aware of five to six flows on a network, according to Paine. But FlowCommand offers visibility to around 200 flows, he says, making the entire network visible and publishing that up to the SDN controller.

Bill Beckett, Saisei founder and chief strategy officer, says that means 50 percent net capacity currently in reserve for peak loads is now available security breaches can be stopped immediately, and users have a better experience.

As reported by SDN Zone in September, Saisei is a two-year-old company whose network performance enforcement solutions sit in the data forwarding plane to enable enterprise and service provider networks to run at or near full capacity, as opposed to operating at 30 to 50 percent to make sure there’s adequate bandwidth for bursting during peak usage times. As a result, there is less idle bandwidth and companies can have more bandwidth on hand to fuel select applications and/or ensure a high-quality connectivity experience for everybody on the network.

Saisei holds three patents from ARPANET creator Larry Roberts, and the company’s technology looks only at the first 30 to 40 frames. Saisei’s solutions began shipping this fall and are available as physical or virtual appliances that can run in legacy or SDN-based environments.
