WebNMS Supports Unified Carrier Ethernet, MPLS Orchestration

By Paula Bernier November 12, 2014

WebNMS, the telecom software division of Zoho Corp., today announced the availability of carrier Ethernet and MPLS support on its orchestration platform, which allows service providers to automate and unify their network operations.

Telcos’ existing network management is done in silos so they can’t unify management of their existing networks, said Prabhu Ramachandran, director of WebNMS. So WebNMS delivers end-to-end discovery, visibility, SLAs, etc., setting the pace for the move to SDN, he said, adding the company’s solutions address both existing and newer telco network technologies.

Symphony Provider Orchestration Platform is based on the company’s WebNMS Framework, about which NFVZone wrote earlier this year. (The WebNMS network management framework is deployed with 25,000 carriers worldwide.) At that time, WebNMS was announcing a partnership with Omnitron through which the two companies were enabling SDN orchestration of carrier Ethernet services.

The new Symphony Provider Orchestration Platform allows for the seamless integration of SDN and NFV services. It does that through the use of YANG modeling, REST APIs, and big data analytics.

“WebNMS service provider customers need practical solutions that centralize operational control of multi-vendor, multi-layer networks,” said Ramachandran. “With Symphony, we are building on our scalable and reliable WebNMS Framework – allowing our customers to describe and automate their unique workflows efficiently with simple, customizable provisioning control wizards and APIs.”

The company also has integrations with SDN controllers from a wide variety of vendors, he added, and has vendor-specific adapters and a protocol adapter that enables it to support the latest relevant protocols.

Ramachandran told SDN Zone that WebNMS intends to add support for broadband and cable networks, and later LTE and satellite solutions, on its orchestrator in the coming months.

Founded in 1996, WebNMS parent Zoho is a profitable private company with 2,500 employees and what it says is a strong stable of engineering resources.
