Comings & Goings: SDN, NFV Leader Nadeau Joins Brocade

By Paula Bernier February 03, 2014

Brocade just got more firepower in the industry battle to capture NFV and SDN mindshare and market share. That comes in the form of Tom Nadeau, who the company has named a distinguished engineer.

This news is important because many companies are vying for talent and technology in the growing fields of software-defined networking and network functions virtualization, which aim to make networking more affordable and responsive to the needs of customers and applications.

Nadeau, according to Brocade, has been on the forefront of the SDN and NFV movements and is a leader of the OpenDaylight Project and OpenStack initiatives. He’s also an active member of the Internet Engineering Task Force.

A 20-year industry veteran, Nadeau previously served as a Distinguished Engineer at Juniper, at which he played a key role in the company's SDN and NFV efforts. He has held similar roles at CA Technologies, Cisco, and other firms. And he’s the co-inventor of many patents.

"The pace at which SDN has transformed the industry is astounding, but community-oriented open source projects have the potential to further accelerate customer adoption by producing multivendor-supported solutions," said Nadeau. "Brocade's involvement in projects such as OpenDaylight demonstrates its understanding of the evolving data center and the solutions customers need to be successful."

Brocade’s hiring of Nadeau comes just a month after the company announced it had brought aboard distringuished engineer Benson Schliesser, a veteran of both Cisco Systems and Juniper Networks.

Schliesser is a distinguished engineer in the CTO office at Brocade. He held the same title of Juniper Networks from March to November 2013, nine months prior to which he was Juniper’s director of the platform systems division. From November 2010 to June 2012 he was a principal engineer and chief architect for the service provider effort at Cisco Systems. He’s also spent several years as an employee for Savvis, where he moved up the ranks several times.
